Course Content
An introductory course on safeguarding children and adolescents in hospital and clinical settings, designed for nurses and other healthcare professionals. The course covers the recognition of safeguarding risks, safe and appropriate responses, accurate documentation, and the reporting of concerns using a child-centred, trauma-informed, and professionally accountable approach.
Course Objectives
- Recognise the fundamental forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and online risks affecting children and adolescents in hospital and clinical settings.
- Respond safely and using a child-centred approach to safeguarding concerns or disclosures, understanding professional boundaries and the importance of timely escalation.
- Document and report safeguarding concerns accurately, objectively, and confidentially, in accordance with organisational policies, local procedures, and established safeguarding principles.
- Understand how increased vulnerability, family and social factors, and the rights of the child influence risk assessment and professional practice.
